Tips Chipping It is well known that to obtain the correct strike on a chip shot a downward strike onto the ball is required. Similarly, hands and weight forward, ball back are common strategies to help achieve this. This is all fine as long as they are interpreted in the correct way. In photo 1 all of these points have been achieved yet it is still unlikely to produce a clean strike due to the spine and shoulder angle that this has produced. With the spine tilted back and the left shoulder high this is still likely to give an unwanted upward strike.
It is much more important for the spine and shoulder angle to be correct which will then produce the desired downward strike. Make sure the chest is forward, with the right shoulder only slightly lower than the right and the spine angle close to vertical as shown in the picture. This will keep the club head travelling down the ball ensuring a ball then turf strike. |
