Amateur Insight
For amateurs of any standard to improve their game they just need to watch a tour event on the television to see the similarities in the vast majority of participants. The fundamentals of these players; grip, posture, body turn, and balance are similar for the reason that this is the most effective way to play the game. From these fundamentals the swings can then vary from player to player due to technical beliefs, body types, body restrictions, or just plain old habit, but they all start from a similar position. Many, many swing flaws start from an incorrect address position which then sets the trend for the swing to follow. For example, the way the body turns and the subsequent swing plane/ balance of club can be manipulated by adjusting the posture. Much time is mistakenly spent on the technical side of the game working on the effect of a fault rather than the fault itself. If the posture for example is causing an incorrect body motion this is then likely to affect the way the club swings and balances. Time and again I have seen golfers trying to work on the body turn or improve the positioning of the club but of course without getting to the original fault success will always be limited at best. Find the fault at the beginning of the chain and the subsequent tendencies thereafter will either iron themselves out or be able to be fixed through the correct sequence. |
